New CBSA Requirements May Affect Commercial Flights Going to Canada

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has implemented the Interactive Advance Passenger Information (IAPI) Initiative to increase border security for flights entering Canada. CBSA's IAPI will require commercial air carriers (including U.S. Part 135/121 operators with IATA or ICAO codes) to submit passenger and flight data prior to departing for Canada from an international point. Beginning March 15, 2016, all affected commercial flights bound for Canada will be required to submit an electronic manifest, including advance passenger information (API), to the CBSA using the new system. The CBSA will then issue a "board/no-board" message for each passenger.

FltPlan is already set up with the new system. This provides an efficient way for you to file your IAP data with the CBSA directly from your FltPlan account (with no need to re-enter the information for either US or Canada). To learn more about how filing your Canadian IAP information through FltPlan can save you time and money, contact our Premium Services office at 731-855-8000 Monday through Friday, from 9am to 5pm Eastern Time.

Summer's Coming - Check out FltPlan's Cloud Tops Tool

FltPlan offers a free Cloud Tops tool, which works with FltPlan Go for iPad. Cloud Tops is a sight level that works using the camera on your iPad FltPlan Go app. Once your level is aligned and locked, Cloud Tops will allow you to set your distance in nautical miles to the clouds, compensating for curvature of the earth. Distances will display in green when flying above the clouds, in red if headed into or below the clouds, and in orange when close to the clouds.

For printed directions on using the Cloud Tops tool, click here.

Click here for a video on how to use Cloud Tops.

To access our complete Video Support library, click the camera icon on the bottom right side of the log-in page (www.FltPlan.com) or, once logged-in, go to Main Menu > Help > Video Support.

February 2016 was a Record Breaking Month at FltPlan

Last month was a record breaker for FltPlan, as we filed more flight plans in February 2016 than any other February in our 16-year history. The number of flight plans filed was up 7.6% over last year and up 4% over January 2016. Stay with us as we continue to grow.

CPDLC Departure Clearances: For Aircraft Equipped with FANS 1/A Over VDL

Aircraft equipped with FANS 1/A over VDL can now receive departure clearances using CPDLC. CPDLC (Controller-Pilot Data Link Clearance) DCL (Departure Clearance) will become available to 56 airports this year. The advantage to this, over a PDC clearance, is that you will be able to get revised clearances directly to your flight deck, whereas a revision to your PDC is delivered via voice.

For more information on CPDLC DCL, including a list of airports and their expected roll-out dates, see below:
