New World-Wide, Color-Coded METARs Display on FltPlan Go and Web

FltPlan has added world-wide, customizable METARs. You can now view METARs from around the world in an easy to view color-coded format. This great addition is an industry first that allows a pilot to determine his/her own criteria for checking weather conditions, including winds and temperatures. Whether you’re a corporate or private pilot, this is a valuable tool for you.

In the past, the standard was the static four criteria VFR, MVFR (Marginal VFR), IFR, and LIFR (Low IFR). Our web-based Map Builder and our FltPlan Go apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android now let the user define these categories based on skill and type of aircraft.

See our iPad manual, pages 31-32, for step-by-step instructions.

Transfer Aircraft Performance with FltPlan's Donor Feature

Did you know that you can easily transfer aircraft performance from one account to another? Or that you can copy the performance from one of your aircraft to another aircraft in your own profile? You can accomplish either task quickly with our Donor feature.

Here are some uses for this feature:

  • Many times within a flight department, one pilot 'tweaks' the performance numbers for one of their aircraft and wants to share the performance data with other pilots with different accounts.
  • You have multiple aircraft in your profile that are the same model, and you want to use your modified data for all your aircraft.
  • You know a pilot that flies an uncommon aircraft type, and you want to use the performance profile that he has created.

FltPlan’s Donor feature lets you transfer the data to other accounts or to another aircraft within your account, with a few easy entries.

It's as simple as following these steps:

  1. Go to the Main Menu > Settings > A/C Performance.
  2. Select the N# for which you wish to import the data.
  3. Click the Press Here When Done button.
  4. Use Method #1 to copy the Performance data from another pilot's profile:

                            – Enter the donor pilot's username
                            – Enter the donor's N# (or call sign)
                            – Include Donor's ICAO Data

    • To include the aircraft A/C ICAO Data, leave the checkbox selected.

    • If you do not want to transfer ICAO data, unselect the checkbox.

    • If you selected "Include Donor's ICAO Data", then the ICAO data will be used; however you will need to
go to the A/C ICAO section to enter your emergency contact info.

  5. Click the "Copy Profile" button.

After completing these steps, the donor aircraft's performance data will now be used for your aircraft.

New Video Support for Cloud Tops Tool

Last week we announced FltPlan’s new Cloud Tops tool, which works with FltPlan Go for iPad. Now we have a video tutorial to help you use it to your best advantage.

Cloud Tops is a sight level that works using the camera on your iPad FltPlan Go app. Once your level is aligned and locked, Cloud Tops will allow you to set your distance in nautical miles to the clouds, compensating for curvature of the earth. Distances will display in green when flying above the clouds, in red if headed into or below the clouds, and in orange when close to the clouds.

For printed directions on using the Cloud Tops tool, click here.

To access our complete Video Support library, click the camera icon on the bottom right side of the log-in page ( or, once logged-in, go to Main Menu > Help > Video Support.
